Of Enchantment Wrought by Written Word

I hope you had a good Christmas. It was mostly pretty quiet here.

I had had some thoughts about comunication and would like to share them with you
Have you heard a song and thought it sounded like how someone you know talks? As often as not people recognise folks they know through that person's choice of words as well as his voice.

Words effect people strongly. They can be used to strengthen someone's convictions or to attempt to change them. Words are also be used to reveal truths or to conceal them. In this blog, I talk of their use in showing someone's thoughts.

Sometimes people share a dream, a beautiful vision which may call out, asking to be set into some medium. How are they going to share this dream? Most likely, they will convey it through their speech. The enthusiasm in their voices and in their choice of words will paint a beautiful image across the listener's mind.
People have also used word choice and the overall tones to turn folks away from something the writer finds undesirable. For instance, the word "herbalist" is a more positive word than the term "quack". It is obvious which term an alternative healer would prefer to be called since the term herbalist indicates that the person knows what he is talking about when it comes to herbal medicine.

Someone can change the future and affect how others remember history through his use of words. This powerful gift from God has been used since mankind's beginnings to both harm and good. How many times have you read in your history books that some great(or not so great) leader was advised to take a particular course of action? To see that today, all you have to do is read the news!

Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.
Proverbs 25:15

Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Proverbs 12:18

Please consider what the Bible has to say in James 3.

James 3
1Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. 3When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

7All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring? 12My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
